For the past fourteen years John and I have lived on a smallholding at Witnesham. We are founder members of the Smallholders Society and have Shetland sheep and Dexter cattle to help us manage the land. We also have bantams, two dogs, one cat, eight grandchildren and Murphy the Shetland pony, moles under the lawn and rabbits everywhere. All good fun and better than the gym or the golf course for keeping fit.

Andy & I bought our smallholding about six years ago and really enjoy our alternative lifestyle. We grow our own fruit and vegetables, and have Boer goats for their meat along with chickens, geese, ducks, turkeys and occasionally pigs and lamb. Our two youngest children are home educated.

We moved out of south London a couple of years ago and now run a
smallholding in Framlingham. We rent a small farm and have all sorts of
poultry, bees, goats, a small flock of Jacob sheep and a handful of red poll
cattle. We also cultivate fruit and vegetables and have a plan for pigs this
coming spring.

My husband, Iain, and I have been smallholders for many years and have always grown our own organic vegetables, herbs and fruit, as well as keeping a flock of chickens (even when we lived in town!). My parents also grew their own produce, kept bantams, made beer, wine, chutneys, jams and bread so I grew up with smallholding in my blood. We are enjoying buying organic meat and fruit/vegetables from other smallholders. We have recently moved but hope to have our 'smaller plot' planted up very soon.
